2–4 Weeks Before – Things Are Getting Real

  • Plan your furniture layout (this part can actually be fun!)

  • Decide on the placement of wall shelves, mirrors, pictures, and décor

  • Think about which lights go where in your new space

  • Will you take curtains or drapes with you, or buy new ones?

  • Check and organize your toolbox – make sure everything is complete

  • Dismantle furniture you no longer need

    • Label parts clearly (e.g., with masking tape) and secure all screws and hardware

  • Start packing the first boxes – and remember to label them clearly

  • Use up frozen food supplies from your freezer to minimize waste



1 Day Before – The Excitement Builds

  • Document any existing damage

    • Take photos of walls, floors, furniture, staircases (both in the old and new home)

  • Prepare all necessary keys for the move

  • Pack your personal essentials

    • Keys, documents, medications, phone and charger, clothes, toiletries, laundry

  • Prepare cool packs and a cooler for perishables or medicine

  • Organize food and drinks for yourself and your helpers

  • Pack the final items into boxes – (don’t underestimate those last bits!)

  • Have garbage bags, packing materials, cleaning supplies, and a broom ready



1–3 Months Before the Move

  • Check notice periods / Find a new tenant if needed

  • Understand security deposit conditions

  • Clarify who is responsible for renovations or cosmetic repairs

Today’s the Day – Moving Day!

  • Turn heating down to a minimum in the old home

  • Brief your helpers (this is very important!)

    • What’s being moved, in what order, box and room labeling system

🧊 Before the Move-Out

  • Pack contents of fridge/freezer into a cooler box

  • Dismantle remaining furniture, lamps, appliances, machines

  • Load the moving van in the right order

    • Make sure everything is properly secured and protected for transport

  • Check the old apartment for any damage and document it

  • If needed, turn off water, electricity, and heating

  • Sweep stairways and walking paths if necessary

  • Drive carefully – you’re carrying precious cargo!

  • Brief your helpers again

    • Use your furniture placement plan, room labels, and prioritization
